LANGKAWI, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The newly formed Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) today signed three contracts worth RM20 million for supply of equipment for its personnel and vessels.
MMEA director-general, Vice Admiral Datuk Mohammad Nik said the purchases were needed to help the agency provide effective safety and security to vessels plying Malaysian waters.
Two of the contracts were with MSET Shipbuilding Sdn Bhd for the supply of general purpose machine guns and Era Intermerge Sdn Bhd for working shoes.
The third was with Highpoint Worldwide Sdn Bhd for manufacturing, supply and delivery of 25 units of inflatable boats and 10 trailers.
The signing was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Awana Porto Malai here, and was held in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2005).
MSET Shipbuilding and Era Intermerge were represented by Aminudin Mohd Yusof while Highpoint Worldwide by its executive director, Yaakob Seman.
