KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Mset Shipbuilding Corporation Sdn Bhd, a leading shipbuilder in the East Coast since 1953, is now actively building 25 vessels and boats estimated at a value of RM50 million.
Its chief executive officer, Ahmad Yusof, said that among the ships being built was a patrol boat for the Tioman Development Board. The boat, measuring 11.8 metres is to be used for patrolling the island areas.
Another 60-metre vessel is also being built for Tanjung Kapal Services.
The vessel to be owned by Tanjung Kapal Services will be the largest to be built by Mset for the use of transporting petroleum and gas products on sea, Ahmad said when contacted by Bernama here, Wednesday.
Others being built include four, 16-metre boats ordered by Damen Shipyard Group, 16 aluminium boats for the Fire and Rescue Department and three boats for the military.
As for its repair works, he said Mset was currently repairing 26 boats and vessels, mostly owned by the Malaysian government.
The company's repair works have been estimated at more than RM5 million.
He said the company had also tendered for shipbuilding projects worth about RM150 million in total.
